Tikiri K. Jayathilake

Assistant Secretary General, Legislative Services, Parliament, Sri Lanka

Mr. Tikiri.K.Jayathilake is currently holding the post of Assistant -Secretary-General of Parliament of Sri Lanka.  Prior to joining the Parliament in 2015, he worked as a Magistrate from 2006 handling many important cases in various Courts around the country. He joined Attorney-General’s department as a State Counsel in 2002 and served in many key stations before joining the judiciary in 2006.

He has been entrusted with supervising the Departments of Legislative Services and Hansard and assisting the Secretary General of Parliament in the Legislative Process of Parliament. He is responsible for overseeing the Committees of Parliament including the work of the newly established Sectoral Oversight Committees. Among the committees, the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Sustainable Development and Environment and Natural Resources, the Select Committee of Parliament to study and report to Parliament its recommendation to ensure National Evaluation Capacity in Sri Lanka and the Select Committee of Parliament on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are significant as they were established to facilitate the role of Parliament in effective implementation of  these concepts which are novel to the Parliament to a certain extent.

Mr. Jayathilake obtained his L.L.B from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and received his LL.M from the Northumbria University, United Kingdom. He is currently reading for a M.A. in Criminology from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.  He has also received a Diploma in Forensic Medicine from the Medical faculty of University of Colombo.  He has published a book on Community based Corrections.
