Shalina Miah

Regional Manager, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, UNV

Ms. Shalina Miah took up her appointment as the Regional Office Manager for Asia-Pacific of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in January 2018 and is based in Bangkok.

Previously, she was the Chief of the Partnerships Unit in UNV, responsible for leading resource mobilization, partnerships building, South-South cooperation and knowledge management in resource mobilization in UNV.

Shalina joined UNV from the United Nations Capital Development Funds (UNCDF) in Bangkok, where she was the Regional Office Manager in charge of Asia-Pacific.

Prior to joining UNCDF, Shalina held the position of Co-Financing Agreements Specialist in UNDP Headquarters working with all funding partners. Before joining the UN family, she served as Legal Counsel in Manila at the Asian Development Bank and in Washington DC at the World Bank.

Shalina started her career as a lawyer in international law firms in Brussels, specialised in Corporate, European, Labour and Immigration Law among others. She also worked at the legal department of the European Commission.

Shalina holds three Master’s degrees in: International Trade Law from King’s College University; European Business Law from La Sorbonne in Paris, France; and, Corporate Law from University Catholique of Louvain in Belgium.

Shalina is a native Bengali and French speaker. She speaks several other languages including English, Spanish, Urdu, Hindi, Dutch, among others.
